9 Ways to Bring Your Rooms to Life (Without Breaking the Bank)

By Pepe Calderin dot July 13 , 2022

It’s easy to get stuck in a rut when it comes to decorating your home—and that can lead to rooms that look stale, boring, and plain old bad. Luckily, you don’t have to go out and spend thousands of dollars on new furniture and paint to give your rooms a facelift. Instead, simply follow these 9 tips on how to bring your rooms to life!

With just some creative touches and savvy shopping, you can create an inviting space that’s fresh and interesting…all without breaking the bank!

#1 Paint

A fresh coat of paint is one of the quickest and most affordable ways to breathe new life into a room. When choosing a color, consider the feeling you want to create in the space. For example, light and airy colors can make a small room feel more open, while bolder hues can add drama and depth.

It’s also important to choose the right hue for your décor; shades that are too close on the color wheel may not harmonize as well as those that are complementary. Remember: It’s always best to get samples before investing in gallons of paint!

#2 Change Out Your Hardware

One of the quickest and easiest ways to change the look of your rooms is to switch out your hardware. This includes things like door knobs, drawer pulls, faucets, and light fixtures. If you’re not ready for a complete overhaul, start small by swapping out one or two pieces. You’ll be surprised at how big of a difference it can make!

#3 Add Plants

Plants are an easy and inexpensive way to add life to any room. Not only do they look great, but they also help purify the air. If you’re not much of a green thumb, opt for low-maintenance plants like succulents or air plants that don’t require soil. Some houseplants are poisonous if ingested so be sure to research your options before adding them to your space!

#4 Try New Throw Pillows

Throw pillows are an easy and inexpensive way to change up the look of any room. They can add color, pattern, and texture, and they can be swapped out seasonally or whenever you’re in the mood for a change . Some of my favorite places to find affordable throw pillows include Target, IKEA, TJ Maxx/Home Goods, West Elm, World Market, and Amazon.

#5 Add a Blanket Scarf

You might be asking, What is a blanket scarf? Blanket scarves are usually long and come in many colors. They are traditionally made of wool and work well for keeping you warm on a chilly night. Use them as a cozy throw over your bed or couch, or wrap one around your neck as you walk through the cold weather.

#6 Invest in Curtains

Curtains are a great way to add a pop of color or pattern to a room, without making a big commitment. Plus, they can help with light control and privacy. When choosing curtains, look for ones that are made of natural fibers like cotton or linen, which will help regulate temperature and reduce noise.

If you’re looking for more color, use them as an accent piece and keep the rest of your room neutral-toned. If you have a large window in your living room, use long curtains on both sides of it to make it feel more spacious.

#7 Use Artwork

Hanging artwork is an easy way to add a pop of color and personality to any room. But you don’t have to spend a fortune on original paintings or limited-edition prints. Look for affordable options at local art fairs, online galleries, or even thrift stores.

And don’t be afraid to get creative with how you display your artwork. Try grouping several smaller pieces together or hanging artwork at different heights to create an eye-catching display.

Adding a few personal touches to your home can make all the difference in how you feel about it. And, it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Try some of these tips and see how easy it is to fall in love with your home all over again.
